4.c.1. A refund will be issued minus the $50 registration fee. Please allow 7–10 business days for processing.
4.d. Students are encouraged to attend the meeting. Cameras must remain on for the entire session.

5. In-Session Policies & Procedures
5.a. Each student will receive a copy of “The Keys to Teaching the Skills of Driving” student booklet and the Playbook on the first day of class. Parents/guardians are encouraged to review these materials with their students.
5.b. ODOT (Oregon Department of Transportation) requires students to complete a total of 42 hours of driver training/education:
5.b.1. 30 classroom hours. During the school year, classes meet twice a week for six weeks. Summer courses meet four days a week for three weeks.
5.b.2. 12 hours BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives: 6 drives, 2 hours each (1 hour driving + 1 hour observing).
Drives are usually scheduled once per week for 6 consecutive weeks but may be every other week due to instructor availability. Each BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives includes two students and one instructor.
5.b.3. BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives #6 cannot be completed until at least 35 calendar days after the first drive, so classroom instruction will end before all BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives are finished.
5.c. ODOT attendance requirements:
5.c.1. Students must attend all 12 classes, totaling at least 30 classroom hours.
5.c.1.1. The course is not complete until all 30 hours are finished.
5.c.1.2. The first two classes cannot be missed for any reason. Missing either will result in the student being dropped from the course with no exceptions. (Section 5: In-session Policies & Procedures)
5.c.1.3. S.O.D.E., Inc. does not allow students to miss any class or BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives. In extreme, unforeseen circumstances, approved missed classes or drives must be made up in future courses, which will extend course completion. The first two classes and first BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives cannot be made up (no exceptions)
5.c.1.3.1. If a student is late, the instructor will arrange make-up time before or after classes.
5.c.1.3.2. If an entire class is missed, it can only be made up in a future course (this is the only excused absence allowed). The student is responsible for scheduling make-up classes. For example, if class 3 is missed, the make-up must also be class 3.
5.c.2. The first BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives must occur between the 4th and 10th classroom hour. (Sections 6: Behind the Wheel Drives)
5.c.3. Students unable to attend the first two classes or first BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives for any reason will be dropped from the course with no refund or transfer with no exceptions.
5.d. S.O.D.E., Inc. requires students to complete all coursework by the end of the following session. Example: Students in the Spring Session must finish by the end of the first Summer Session.
5.e. S.O.D.E., Inc. provides auto insurance coverage for students driving our education vehicles only. Students must complete at least 5 additional practice hours outside of class with a parent or guardian who has valid insurance on their personal vehicle during the course. A signed 5-Hour Parent Involvement form is required before the ODOT (Oregon Department of Transportation) card is issued. While 5 hours is the minimum, we strongly recommend 10–15 hours of additional practice for student success.
5.f. A summer driver education course cannot be completed in fewer than 35 days from the first class. Therefore, BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives will continue after the classroom portion ends.
5.g. As a refresher, students who have successfully completed S.O.D.E., Inc.’s ODOT (Oregon Department of Transportation) - approved driver education course may attend any future classroom sessions at no charge. Parents or students must contact our office to arrange this.
6. Behind-the-Wheel Drives (BTW)
6.a. A link to sign up for BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives times will be emailed the day after the Mandatory Parent Meeting only to attendees.
6.a.1. BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives are scheduled in two-hour blocks, once a week for six weeks, unless otherwise communicated by the office or instructor. Occasionally, drives may be every other week due to instructor availability.
6.a.2. BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives times will remain consistent for time, location, and instructor throughout the course. Any changes will be communicated by the instructor or office.
6.a.3. ODOT (Oregon Department of Transportation) requires the first BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives to take place after the fourth hour and before the tenth hour of classroom instruction.
6.a.3.1. Students cannot miss the first two classes for any reason; missing either will result in being dropped from the course.
6.a.3.2. Students must attend the first scheduled BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives; failure to do so will result in being dropped.
6.a.3.3. If a student is unable to attend the first two classes and/or the first BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives, they will be dropped from the course with no refund or transfer with no exceptions.
6. ODOT Course Completion Guidelines
7.a. Students aged 15–17 who successfully complete all course requirements and pay all fees will be entered into the DMV system.
ODOT (Oregon Department of Transportation) no longer issues plastic course completion cards. Completion dates are entered electronically in DMV2U and can be viewed by visiting the DMV2U website.
7.a.1. Students must pass all course exams and the final BTW drive assessment with a score of 80% or higher.
(Section 5: In-session Policies & Procedures) (Sections 6: Behind the Wheel Drives)
7.a.2. All missed time must be made up. Completion will not be entered into DMV2U until the student has completed at least 30 classroom hours and all 12 hours of BTW (Behind-the-Wheel) Drives.
The classroom instructor will provide options for makeup work according to ODOT (Oregon Department of Transportation) guidelines.
7.a.3. Completion will not be entered into DMV2U until the 5-Hour Parent Involvement Form is submitted.
7.b. Students aged 18–19 may request a paper course completion certificate, which can be used as proof for insurance purposes.
7.c. Why are Course Completion Dates in DMV2U important?
7.c.1. Once a student is at least 16 years old and has completed all course requirements, they may go directly to the DMV to obtain their license without additional testing.
7.c.1.1. Entry of the completion date into DMV2U waives the requirement for a DMV drive test.
7.c.1.2. The course completion record in DMV2U is valid for two years.
7.c.1.3. The DMV is working on a printable confirmation feature, which may be used to request a discount from your insurance provider.
